Garmin has four color finders with screens from 3,5- 5". The last one is in our test, and this model can also be connected with other instruments. The system is named Garmin CANet. Garmin 340C has a double frequency of 50 kHz and 200 kHz. The unit has a twistable attachment, a smart pin lock that are easy to release and has only one contact in the back piece so it is simple to take home. Speed-log is extra equipment. Garmin 340C has a clear image despite that this finder does not has the same resolution on the screen as some of the competitors. Humminbird 585c- can much more
Humminbird have a large model program of fish finders in the 3-10" range. Among the six models with 5" screen in the 500 series we tested the model 585c which has a very reasonable price. Speed log is extra gear on this model. Humminbirds fish finders is not compatible with other navigation instruments. All models has a very smart mounting system with all electric wires mounted inside the holder itself. The instrument is losened with a button and is easy to bring home. The holder can be twisted and angled in all directions. Humminbird 525c was tested hard to see if it could hold and it handled all tests nicely. To get full reward from the 525c, one should preferably do some manual adjustments. Then it become very exciting to work with. Both schools and bottom conditions are very clear on the screen. The resolution is only of 320 x 240 but it does not matter. It is more than enough.

Lowrance x510c- a good fish finder
Lowrance have several color fish finders and first of all in combination with chartplotters. The tested model x510c has a image area of 5" and a resolution of 480 x 480 pixels. The frequency is 200 kHz for this model, but one has also a 5" model(x515c) that has both 50 kHz and 200 kHz frequencies. Lowrance x510c has a fixed hoop attachment. Speed log is extra. The new generation fish finders from Lowrance, as x510c is a part of, have a nice and contrast rich image presentation that they are for now alone of having. The finders have quickly been popular due to a slightly different way of presenting the images, because here is schools and bottom edges reinforced with a black circle around it. When one is familiar with the finder, it is no problem separating hard bottom conditions from soft, something that can be very useful when anchoring for the evening, or setting out lobster pots. This is purely a good fish finder.

Raymarine DS500x- the best color image
Raymarine have only color fish finders, and in the fish finder series they have we find both DS600 with a 5,7" screen and the tested DS500x with a 5" screen. DS500x stands out slightly from the other units in the test because it sends out a digital identification signal which can not be disturbed by other fish finders. DS500x sends out in both 50 kHz and 200 kHz and the instrument has a high gain of 500 Watt RMS. Connection possibilities to other navigation instruments and speed log is standard in the unit. Raymarine DS500x is the simplest unit to start up, and has generally the best image. It is extremely seldom one excperiences disturbances in the picture, but the most positive is that the settings in auto is much more extensive than in the other units. Already at the first press on the "on" button one has a well function fish finder. Another finesse is the fast update in drawing up the bottom curve. The signal is transformed in an early stage to digitale signals that gives a razor sharp image without disturbances. When one tests a finder and drives in high speed from shallow to deep water, most fish finders lose the connection to bottom, but this problem does not exist with Raymarine DS500x.
